Heartland Acres Family Fishing Day RECAP for Sunday October 6, 2013
(Front Row L-R) Jase Loveless and Maddox Loveless. (Back row L-R) Dan Loveless and Mike Loveless in the October 6, 2013 Family Fishing Day on Swan Lake at Heartland Acres campus in Independence, Iowa.
The weather on Sunday, October 6 proved more than most wanted to deal with. Just a small group of visitors showed up to try their luck in Swan Lake. The fishing was slow and the change in weather brought few bites from reluctant fish.
For the event, anglers were supplied bait and prizes from The Bait Shoppe. Gary White, Ben Bigler, Jim Bachman, and Joe Olsen were on hand once again to assist as needed. Their support for this event is invaluable and they always make time to show up for Heartland Acres fishing events.
As the fishing was slow, the anglers found time to tour the museum and see some of the recently updated exhibits along with several brand new displays including a 1954 GMC 100 truck which according to Mike and Dan Loveless would make their boys’ day.
Up next for an outdoor activity will be the annual Fishing Derby on Swan Lake. The date is tentatively set for Sunday, February, 9 2014 with a make-up date of February 16. The Fishing Derby will once again be in conjunction with the Chili Cook-off.
